Distrito Cookies And Cream Was Born

Image
Monday For the first pday with the new district, we played volleyball and ate at El Olivar. It was bussin like always. We also came up with the name for our district and Elder Huanca came up with Cookies and Cream (because every companionship in our district is made up of 1 Latino and 1 American). We then had weekly planning, which was miserable but well needed. Tuesday Today was my first 3-hour-long Zoom meeting that I had to participate in, so I packed a lot of snacks and just listened. It was long and boring as expected. After, we visited some friends, one of which being our recent convert Basilia. We asked if her family would like to listen and her daughter participated with us, which was huge. We also had another lesson with Irma, prepping her for her baptism on the 19th. We taught Word of Wisdom and Chastity, which she took like a champ. Wednesday We traveled pretty far in our area for some lessons until we got a message from President explaining that the Hermanas in our district...

Evolution

Monday For our Pday we met up as a district to do a "Carnival," which basically just means playing with water balloons. It was a great change of pace since we did nothing the weeks before. Like always, we got El Olivar after with the movie Happy Feet playing in the background. Random but funny. Tuesday Today we were waiting for the announcements for transfer news until we realized that we actually missed the whole meeting completely. We had to ask the ZL's to send us a picture and it turns out that Elder Hone is getting booted out and Elder Huanca (pronounced like Willy Wanka) from Bolivia is coming in. I also got assigned as District Leader so that means an infinite amount of meetings but this time I can't rest during them haha. Rest of the day was chill, we had a funeral during that district counsel saying goodbye to Elder Nelson and Hermana Tapara and then we spent some of the day saying goodbye to people in our area for Elder Hone. Wednesday Transfer day. It's...

Awesome Friends

(Disclaimer, this email might sound like a robot wrote it because Gmail tried to fix it. Maybe it's better, maybe it's worse.) Monday We kinda got jipped because everyone in their district made their own plans and left us alone. With nothing else to do but see the dirt hills, we went to El Olivar and took a lot of naps. Tuesday Today was the big debate about Victor's baptism. We've been teaching him for about three months and planned the baptism for this Saturday, with the invitations ready and everything. Well, since the ward boundaries are changing, we had to pass the baptism on to the other elders. We're very happy he was baptized, but very sad that we couldn't be there after teaching him all the lessons and preparing him. The important thing is that he made this covenant with God. Wednesday A very quiet day, but the end was worth it. Lately, one of the members has been taking her 14-year-old neighbor Irma to church, and she's already gone four times! Ton...

Just Another Missionary Email

Monday Boring day. It was good to rest, but the district was busy with their own things, so we just shopped, cleaned, and ate El Olivar. Solid stuff. Tuesday District Counsel. Elder Nelson basically aimed it towards the Hermanas who didn't find basically anyone this week. Funny thing is that they weren't paying attention. After, we got El Olivar once again but as a district. It was just as bussin as the first time. We spent the day visiting some inactive families and getting to know them. We then got some references from Hermana Ruth who lately has been going dummy with the missionaries. We then called it a night with Hermana Susan, asking about how she felt after her baptism. Visits with her are always super good. Wednesday First up was Dylan and Jesus, who want to get baptized but haven't been going to church, which is a problem. We also had this contact at the very top of our hill, so we had to hike this giant sketchy staircase to reach it. Sometimes I don't believe ...

Good Things Going

Monday Well, we were gonna do normal Pday activities but our DL got the Hermanas mad at him so they didn't show up to volleyball and it ended up being pretty boring without them and their friends haha. Shoot. At least we always have El Olivar to make up for slow Pdays. After that it was just naps and family before ending Pday and having a little Family Home Evening with some inactives. Also hit 9 months this day. I could have had a baby in that amount of time! Wild stuff. Tuesday We had district counsel and decided to eat with the other Elders after. We got this really good Peruvian seafood which was bussin. The day started with Carlos and Joaquin who started 1 Nephi of the BOM! We're very excited for them and the testimonies they are growing. Later that night we tried knocking on a digital reference's door but ended up knocking on the wrong one and finding this 30-year-old bro named Pierre and he is so chill. His backyard is the nicest backyard I've seen in 9 months (m...

Cross That Off The Bucket List

Image
Monday Started the week off strong by waking up to an earthquake! It was only a 5.1, so not crazy, but it still kind of spooked me. Also, I got to cross that off my bucket list because the last earthquake like that I’ve been in, I slept through haha. Today we just played volleyball and ate at El Olivar. Solid P-day activities. Then that night we got to see a mission call opening of one of our favorite member families here. She's doing a service mission here in Peru, so that'll be fun to be able to work with her, especially since she helps us a lot with lessons already. Tuesday After District Council, we and the Hermanas went to that family’s house to celebrate the mission call opening, and that was super fun. The Gonzales family is super lit. Later that day, we talked with Mau, who we are trying to help find other work options so he can go to church and be baptized with his family. Then we also had Susan, who’s preparing to be baptized this next week! We ran into her earlier th...

Out Here Loving It

Monday P-day! We met up as a district, got some members together, and played volleyball. Pretty lit. After that, we hit up El Olivar (of course). After calling family and taking naps, we went over to the Gonzales for a quick family home evening, and we were told that it was Beatriz's birthday! She didn't want us to get her anything but had us sing to her in English, so that's exactly what we did as we enjoyed our Tres Leches. Pretty awesome night. Tuesday It was honestly a super slow day, but that night there was a volleyball activity that we invited some of our friends to, and that was lots of fun. We didn't stay too long because we had other lessons, but unfortunately, some fell through. Then, as we were walking by, a huge group of kids was playing volleyball just over a tiny fence. They asked us if we could play with them, and so we did for a little bit haha. I gave them some candy, cards of Jesus, and taught them a little bit of English before leaving again. Guess w...
