Just Another Missionary Email

Monday

Boring day. It was good to rest, but the district was busy with their own things, so we just shopped, cleaned, and ate El Olivar. Solid stuff.

Tuesday

District Counsel. Elder Nelson basically aimed it towards the Hermanas who didn't find basically anyone this week. Funny thing is that they weren't paying attention. After, we got El Olivar once again but as a district. It was just as bussin as the first time. We spent the day visiting some inactive families and getting to know them. We then got some references from Hermana Ruth who lately has been going dummy with the missionaries. We then called it a night with Hermana Susan, asking about how she felt after her baptism. Visits with her are always super good.

Wednesday

First up was Dylan and Jesus, who want to get baptized but haven't been going to church, which is a problem. We also had this contact at the very top of our hill, so we had to hike this giant sketchy staircase to reach it. Sometimes I don't believe that Peru is a real place. We had another contact we were looking for but accidentally knocked on this door of people who were visiting members from another Christian denomination. They invited us in and gave us crackers and soda. I was a little cautious and ready for a bash, but they were super nice and just asked us how our experience has been in Peru. Also, the lady that lives there sells Jesus merch that I'm low-key looking to buy haha. We ended the night with Barbara and her family, and we got her permission to start working to baptize her kids, Aaron and Olivar, so we're super excited for that.

Thursday

Pretty slow day. We visited this member named Hermelinda, who is super sweet but will talk your ear off. We asked her what she knows about Lehi's vision, and she went from explaining the first half of First Nephi, to missionary work, to Joseph Smith, to her grandkids, to a giant rat she found in her house, and 30 minutes later, without saying anything, she lets us go. Pretty silly.

Friday

Today I had another exchange with Elder Nelson. He leaves in like 8 days, which is wild. He's really fun to listen to because he has a really crazy conversion story, so the exchange was filled with his stories and also talking about what things he's going to do when he gets home. We also got lots of good work done, and I learned a lot, so it was an awesome day. We also felt an earthquake late at night. I guess they're pretty common.

Saturday

We started off with Joaquin, who is 18 yrs old and super cool. We talked with him about the Plan of Salvation, and lessons with him/his family always go super well. Later on, we visited with Victor, whose brother got back, returned home, which was the only thing we've been waiting for before his baptism. The only problem is that the ward has just decided that they might be changing the boundaries, so it's possible that this week he might be baptized in the other ward. It's a little frustrating because we've been visiting him for a while and got him all prepped for the baptism, but we might have to hand them to the other missionaries. The important thing is, though, that he gets baptized.

Sunday

Super chill day. Definitely the highlight was when recent convert Andy came out with us to help with lessons, and he brought his little sister Naiumi, who wanted to come with us. Crazy thing is that Naiumi isn't even a member! She was a trooper, though, and came with us anyway. We ended the night, and Andy ended up feeding us, and while we were eating, we decided to give a personal lesson with Naiumi. Well, towards the end, Andy kinda took the reins from us and extended a baptismal date for her, which she accepted! Awesome night.

Spiritual Thought: One of my favorite things about being a missionary is seeing the law of consecration through other missionaries. Each one of us has gifts, and on the mission, lots of people think that you need to sacrifice your personality to be a good missionary. Though sacrifices are necessary, we can still keep the personality we already have but consecrate our gifts and talents to help bring people to Christ, and this looks different for everyone!

Thanks for tuning in, hope y’all have a good week! Peace out.
