Cross That Off The Bucket List

Monday

Started the week off strong by waking up to an earthquake! It was only a 5.1, so not crazy, but it still kind of spooked me. Also, I got to cross that off my bucket list because the last earthquake like that I’ve been in, I slept through haha. Today we just played volleyball and ate at El Olivar. Solid P-day activities. Then that night we got to see a mission call opening of one of our favorite member families here. She's doing a service mission here in Peru, so that'll be fun to be able to work with her, especially since she helps us a lot with lessons already.

Tuesday

After District Council, we and the Hermanas went to that family’s house to celebrate the mission call opening, and that was super fun. The Gonzales family is super lit. Later that day, we talked with Mau, who we are trying to help find other work options so he can go to church and be baptized with his family. Then we also had Susan, who’s preparing to be baptized this next week! We ran into her earlier that day and saw her get into an argument with a police officer. Then, without even recognizing it, we gave her a lesson about obeying and honoring the law, which was kind of awkward haha. It's okay, though, because she's awesome.

Wednesday

Today we had exchanges, and I got with Elder Panduro. We went over to Dylan and Jesus's house for a quick lesson. Then their sister came out of their room and told us she had to show us a video. The video ended up just being from this bro who filmed us without us realizing it while we were just walking on the street. Bro posted it on TikTok, and it got about 10,000 likes! TikTok famous also crossed off the bucket list. I guess two white people walking is a big deal in Peru. We also visited Victor today. Unfortunately, we had to move his baptismal date till the end of the month because that’s when his brother gets back. Can't blame them, though—I’d want to wait for my family to come too if it were me. After that, it was a very slow but chill day.

Thursday

Today we picked up a recent convert (who reminds me a lot of my grandpa Mitchell) to help us visit this dad and kid we're teaching. The recent convert and the family are so cool, so it was an awesome lesson. We asked them if they've heard anything about Joseph Smith, and they told us, "Oh yeah, we've already read the introduction of the BOM together!" Let's go! We spent a lot of the day with members, visiting references that they all had, so that was awesome! Also, there was this lady carrying these really heavy bags on the street, so we helped her get to where she was going. She then rewarded us with what was in her bag, and it was this food called Tokush. I've never eaten it before, but it smelled legit like horse manure... and tasted just about the same. I took one bite and immediately threw it back up.

Friday

Exchanges once again, and I got put with Elder Nelson in his area. We share a passion for El Olivar, so we got it for lunch, which was a dub. We then spent the day doing lots of contacts in his area. He also has been living with the ZL's, but as of recently, they found a new house. We checked it out, and it's legit a mansion. Like, I'd thrive in that apartment in the States—it was that good. It was a good day, and it's always a nice break from leading the area for a little bit.

Saturday

Kind of brutal day. We had all of our lessons cancel, and it was just us on our feet hitting contacts. We were both kind of struggling, so we just tried to find dumb things to find fun over as we were hitting contacts. It was still overall pretty slow, though. At the very least, we had a lesson at the end of the day with Susan, who's getting baptized next week! She was asking lots of questions about how the baptism will be. She seems a little nervous but excited, so we're excited for her! Keep Susan in your prayers.

Sunday

It was kind of sad because last week we hit our personal record of people in church, but today we had our all-time lowest. Sometimes it feels like we have no control over it, but we did all we could, so we just need to be satisfied that we put in our effort. That night the APs sent us a reference, and we were going to have a video lesson with her, but our internet decided to cut out as we said the opening prayer. Shoot. Pretty tough day, but gotta have those sometimes.

Spiritual Thought: We visited a family after they didn't go to church on Sunday, and randomly, as we were talking, they picked up the Book of Mormon and turned to a random page. It ended up being Moroni 6, which talks about the importance of baptism and going to church! They then realized that the BOM literally speaks to them about the things they need, and that's true for us too! If you're ever feeling down, the BOM will always help us feel more peace or give us the answers we need!

Thanks for tuning in! Hope y'all have a good week! Peace out.
