Black Out Year
Kinda wild, I'll never touch American soil in the year 2025, but I couldn't be more excited about it. Transfer news dropped, and next Wednesday I'm heading to Los Cedros finishing training a gringo named Elder Hone. I don't know anything about him or the area, so that will be for another email. Anyways, here's the week...
Monday
Soccer was fun because we had lots of people pull up. We definitely got destroyed by 14-year-olds, but that's alright. After was just usual P-day things. I've been grinding the books my parents got me for Christmas, which has been lit. We finished the night going to our pensionista's house, but we visited her son and his family who live upstairs. We had a good Family Home Evening, and they're super fun. At the end, I got to learn how to play "Black Music" because he's a very musical guy, so we just formed our little mini band and grooved to Black Music for the night.
Tuesday
Last day of 2024. We got surprise interviews from President in the morning, and it turns out I'm going home early. Just kidding. It went super well, and he challenged me to make the year 2025 centered on Jesus, so it was really good. The rest of the day was jam-packed with meetings and studies, and we didn't get out until late. We had another Family Home Evening with these other members who are so awesome! One of the sons was talking about the new Mr. Beast series, but I had to shut him up before he made me too trunky. The rest of the night was pretty normal, but once 12 a.m. rolled around, we were surrounded by sketchy fireworks. It was pretty wild, to say the least.
Wednesday
The fireworks kept us up pretty late, so we were dragging our feet today. We had an awesome lesson with this lady about baptism and explained the authority our church has. Then directly after, we had our first English class! It was kind of a womp womp because few people pulled up, but we'll replan on hosting it in another place because there are so many people who want to go to it.
Thursday
We had a lesson with Adolfo today that went super well! We ran into him in this park and read a couple of verses of Jesus coming to the Americas. He seemed super interested in it, which was awesome! We once again had another Family Home Evening with these members, and the daughter brought her friend ONeil over. He's not a member, but he was telling us that he'd like to get to know Jesus more in his life. Thankfully, I know a couple of good-looking missionaries who can help him with that! They also fed us food from Arequipa, which is where my comp is from, and it was bussin.
Friday
I gotta mention this whole week has been so fetching hot. I'll never take air conditioning for granted ever again. The amount of soda breaks we have at Crazy Carolina's is outrageous! Today we were in the top of our area and found this house filled with nine people! They all sat down for a lesson, and it went super well. They are excited for when we come back. We then visited Pamela, our recent convert, which was awesome because we haven't visited her in forever. We had a super powerful lesson about sharing the Gospel. That night we visited the Miranda family. Unfortunately, we moved their date, which means I won't be there for their baptism. But I'm still equally excited for them and hope that they'll feel so much more ready and spiritually filled for this future date.
Saturday
Good but simple day. We had a lesson with this lady named Astrid and her family. They were all very Jesus-driven, but she was definitely the most willing to act, and she told us she wanted to come to our church. She's already been baptized twice in a Catholic and Christian church, so we're hoping that three times won't be too much but with the right authority. We then had a lesson with our 10-year-old recent convert named Andre because her mom has been having a hard time getting themselves to church, so we had a good lesson about the Sabbath day. We then ended the night with the Valles family, who are really strong members. They gave us really good references and have a Family Home Evening planned with them, which will be awesome.
Sunday
It was a very chill day too. Unfortunately, we did not have as many people in church as we were hoping for, with only ONeil pulling up with his friend. I know we did all that we could, so I feel at peace with just diligently working on it. We then had lunch at Crazy Carolina's house with the Hermanas! It was so much fun, and her family is so kind, so it was a party. We definitely got overfed, though. I no joke thought I was gonna vomit at the table. We then had lots of good lessons with other members and recent converts, finding good people on the way.
Spiritual Thought: If you already failed your New Year's resolution, it's not too late! This is why we have repentance. When we fall short, we can learn from our mistakes and look forward. Our Lord Jesus Christ can help you when we fall so that tomorrow and the following days can be the best of our lives!
Thanks for tuning in! I hope 2025 is a good year for all y'all. Say your scriptures, read your prayers, and I'll see y'all next time in my new area! Peace out!
