BIRTHDAY SHOUTOUT TO MCKINLEY TOO RAWWWWW
Ok, on to the week...
Monday
Today we got permission from the APs to visit the museum in the Lima Central mission. Our only reason, honestly, was so that we could go eat at Chili's, but once we arrived, we thought that we might as well go in. It was interesting, but the most exciting part was running into other Americans. It honestly felt so weird talking to strangers in English without having to think of every sentence before I spoke. Then we went to Chili's, and it was bussin. When we got back, we barely had enough time to prepare for a gift exchange the day after before we got back to proselyting again.
Tuesday
We had a big ol' meeting with the mission before having a 2-hour district council, but the last hour was meant for a little party. All we did was have a lil' gift exchange, play a few games, and tell some stories. When we got back, the day was a little slow, but later on, we had some dinners lined up with members, and that was honestly so much fun! We just talked, partied, and ate some good food before making it to our house and calling it a night. Well, it was tough to sleep because of all the fireworks outside, but it was a good night.
Wednesday
Literally as soon as we got up, Bishop called, asking us to help him with a service project, so we immediately rolled out of bed, got ready, and helped him. Honestly, service was probably one of the best ways to start Christmas morning. Outside looked like I was walking through the aftermath of a war, though. Literally, it was the most quiet I've seen Deporte, and the streets were absolutely littered with rockets. After the service, I opened presents and called the fam, which was awesome. Then it was a pretty regular day with another service project after. At night, Elder Estela and I treated ourselves to a nice dinner before going to bed.
Thursday
Pretty basic day. We had weekly planning (worst part of the week), and I was happy to have a new Rubik's cube to keep me sane while planning. We had a lesson with this very Catholic lady and her two daughters. They didn't seem too interested, haha, but we told them that we'll be having English classes at our church, and that got them super excited (but made me nervous because I have no idea how to teach English). Then we had Felix, which went super well. We went with some members, and they all get along phenomenally, so that's awesome.
Friday
It was so dang hot today, and we literally walked everywhere, which was kinda brutal. We visited Carolina and took a Coke break every time we passed by her shop. Today we had a lesson with Adolfo about the Restoration, and he's such a cool guy. He already has an awesome testimony of who God is, and he took our lesson really well. Then we had a lesson with John and Leonor just to finish up the last couple of things she needs before she gets baptized, and once again there were no problems. She took the Word of Wisdom and Tithing like a beast! Lastly, we had a lesson with Madeliene, who loves the Elders. She isn't baptized, but both her husband and daughter are members, so we've been trying to help them out. She just has some problems with getting to church because she's taking classes at the moment, so that's been difficult.
Saturday
We had a video call with this lady who's been reading the BOM and already been going to church. We put her on date, but unfortunately, she doesn't live in our area, so we passed her off to our ZLs. Then it was just a day of normal lessons. At one point, this dude we know was buying beer and asked us if we wanted any. We told him we drink soda, so he bought us some Pepsis. Dubs. Then we had dinner with some members before heading down to Leonor to prep her for her baptism. She passed her interview with flying colors, and he told John that he could baptize her if she wanted. He's still a recent convert, so we didn't know if he'd feel comfortable, but he responded with "Really? Yeah, ok." So boom! Then we ended the night trying to throw church invitation cards through a window of one of our friends who wasn't home and called it a night.
Sunday
LEONOR GOT BAPTIZED WOOOO! Although we had it programmed at 9:00 a.m., she didn't get baptized until like 10:15 a.m. I was so stressed out about it because nobody was showing up, but everyone there said that that's just Peruvian time. Really, her baptism was just the highlight of the day, and it was cool to see someone I baptized baptize her.
Spiritual Thought: I've been reading a lot about Ammon lately, and it's cool to see how the Spirit magnified his ability to accomplish whatever he needed to. It's easy to feel inadequate on the mission or really in any other aspect of life, but we have the gift of the Holy Ghost that can magnify our abilities to accomplish anything we need.
Thanks for tuning in! Have a good week and Happy New Year!
