#BlueEyesMatter
Just received transfer news not too long ago, and it turns out I'm staying for a 4th transfer as district monkey again. I don't know anything about my new companion, so I'll talk more about him next week. Anyways, on to this week...
Monday
Once again full of soccer, and this time we had a lot more people show up. I wouldn't say I've gotten too much better at it, and this 50-year-old member who was playing with us was just yelling at me the entire time, so that was kind of obnoxious, but it was still fun. After, we got KFC with the district and ZLs, and that was a lot of fun too. After that, it was just the usual shopping, calls, and naps. Elder Baldeon hurt his leg pretty bad playing soccer, so he insisted that for the last hour of proselyting, we'd just do some calls, and so that's how we finished the night.
Tuesday
National Men's Day in Peru. RAWWWW. The day wasn't different at all besides a couple of our friends telling us thanks, haha. Normal day including district council and the super long Zoom meeting that Elder Baldeon has. I was just grinding Spanish the entire time. When we got to work, we told ourselves that we were just gonna knock every single blue door between appointments. I guess we chose the wrong color because we didn't get too much success, but we did find this bro named Felix, which was good. We then had a lesson with Enriqueta, who wants to strengthen her family more through religion, so we're trying to get her to come to church and let her know that we're here to help her do that. We then met with John, who's still cool as ever. We just need to meet with the rest of his family to baptize them as well.
Wednesday
Our water heater hasn't been working for almost a month now, so today we finally had some people come fix it, but there were also some other electrical problems, so we were pretty much kicked out of our house the entire day. In the morning, we broke into an apartment building to knock some doors and found 2 people, which was lit. We had a lesson with one of our friends who's progressing named Madelit. Elder Baldeon told her to flip to any page in the BOM and that it would answer any questions she had in life. She ended up flipping to 3 Nephi 8, which isn't exactly a positive, uplifting scripture, haha, but other than that, it was a good lesson. Then we talked with Teresa and invited her to church. Turns out it's more convenient for her to go to another chapel, but she said she'll go, so that's what matters. Then it was just visiting members before returning to our house, now with warm water! Dubs.
Thursday
We had lots of meetings and planning, so we didn't get out until late. We were waiting in this park to meet with a member who was gonna come out with us and just doing calls until this kid came up to me to ask me something. Before he said anything, his brother said, "Wait! Don't talk to him, he's a stranger with blue eyes!" Before I could say anything, they both got closer to inspect my eyes to confirm that what they were seeing was real. Once they confirmed, they ran away screaming. #BlueEyesMatter. It's OK, I ended up running into that same kid a little later, and he gave me a Cheeto, so I think we're chill. That night we had a lesson with Felix, Lizeth, and Ricardo, which is a family we have on date. Our lesson turned out well with them, but they told us that they don't think they'd be able to come to church due to work this week. That was a bummer, but they promised us next week for sure, so we're gonna keep working with them.
Friday
Very normal day. We tried to step up our finding game and knocked a bunch of doors. We got a lot of people's contact information, which was good, so we just need to have follow-up lessons with them. We also ended up finding this family of 4. It was just the mom and her 2 kids that answered, but they're all so cool, and Astrid (the mom) told us that her dad is a member, so they're golden! We're excited to meet with them more. In the night, we were supposed to have a meeting with our mission leader, but when we arrived at the church, he bailed on us, so we just got $3.50 burgers with the other Elders and called it a day.
Saturday
While we were eating at our pensionista's house, her kids were playing the piano and guitar, and they are legit so good! They played some songs by Radiohead, and it was legit like a concert as we were eating, haha. Our day was full of lessons, which was really good, and we were also trying to reactivate some members. In the night, we broke into another apartment building to find some people already recorded on our phone. One of the doors we knocked, this little girl opened it fully, only to reveal this big brown Peruvian dad lying on the couch in only his underwear. Bro hurried and got up and made his way to his room to hide, but boy was it a sight. We ended the night by talking with Andre and his mom. We baptized them a while ago, but it's been a second since we talked with them, so it ended up being a good visit.
Sunday
Such an interesting day. A good few of our recent converts came, and one of them actually brought some people with her, which was awesome. One of the people she brought was her inactive brother, and the other isn't part of the church but has been before. Let's go! We scheduled times to meet with them again, so that'll be exciting. After church, it was literally just a day of service. We helped one of the friends of the other Elders paint her restaurant, which took forever, and then late that night, we had to help the family of our pensionista rearrange their furniture. When we got done, we only had time to finish with a few calls before calling it a night. It ended up being a really good day though.
Spiritual Thought: The BYU talk "His Grace is Sufficient" by Bradley Wilcox is phenomenal. 10/10 recommendation if you want to learn more about how the grace of Jesus Christ really works.
Thanks for tuning in! Hope all of you have a great week! Read your scriptures and say your prayers, and until next time, peace out!
