Too Busy To Go Dummy
Good morning, everyone! This week was super good, and I liked it a lot because every day felt like we did something different. So, I'll just get right into things.
Monday
We were going to meet up in the church as a district and play spikeball, but when we showed up, they forgot to bring the net. We ended up just talking, and then we went to eat lunch. While we were there, we played Cover Your Assets. Our district is honestly super fun, so I love hanging out with them. After lunch, it was just the usual naps and calls back home before we had to start proselyting again. But this week, we told ourselves, "vamos a ir dummy"—pretty much a funny way of saying we're going to work super hard. That night, we found some really cool people and had awesome lessons.
Tuesday (Birthday shoutout to Elizabeth Jane Butler Mitchell)
This morning, we had district council, which I now look forward to every week! Mostly because we always grab ice cream after, but either way, it gets me in a better mood. Afterward, we had lunch, and then when we got back, Elder Wilkens had to hop on a 3-hour Zoom call with the other leaders in the mission. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do during that time, and since I had finished my studies already, I spent most of the time in our bedroom pondering Lehi's dream (if you know, you know). Since we were so busy, we didn't get out of the house until late, but we still wanted to work hard, and that's exactly what we did. We've also been trying to identify people's needs better, which has made the lessons more personal, which is cool. Even though we got out super late, we exceeded our finding goal and ended the day successfully.
Wednesday
For companion study, we got a little distracted and started giving each other random dates to read journal entries from. It was actually a lot of fun. Today was also different because we had interviews with the president. After lunch, we got ready and headed out for those. It was a lot of fun talking to the other Elders who were waiting there, and it gave me a chance to practice my Spanish. The interview was really good! It was short, but President gave me solid advice on what goals I can set. We then left with the other Elders in our district, Robinson and Medina, to get back to our areas. I love hanging out with those guys, and Elder Robinson hooked us up with this guy that makes Peruvian ties and custom plaques. So, Elder Wilkens and I spent a lot of time looking through those.
Thursday
This morning, we thought we had to wake up early to help our ward mission leader move, but it turns out it was scheduled for later in the week. So, we got up for nothing—kind of devastating. We ended up buying those ties we learned about the day before, but we had to pay in cash at a specific place before they could be shipped to us. I used the last bit of soles I had left, and now I'm broke. We also had our last Zoom class with the Davies before they left to go back home from their mission. They're a senior couple we sometimes have classes with, and they actually live in my home stake, which is kind of crazy. We also had weekly planning, so once again, we didn’t get out of the house until late. We had a lesson with Monica, who is on date, and the lesson went really well. We talked about the Plan of Salvation, and she really liked it, asking good questions. We ended the night with our most recent convert, John. It was so cool! He said that no matter what, he's never going to miss a day of church because it was a promise he made to God. It was so powerful to hear that from him.
Friday
Busy. We had a meeting in the morning with the zone leaders, where they used an analogy involving watermelon. They made some Elders try to eat it super fast, and I didn't really understand the point, but at least it was entertaining. After studies and everything else, we had a weekly Zoom call to discuss our goals for the week. For the fourth day in a row, our proselyting time was cut short. After that meeting, we were only out for an hour because Elder Wilkens had to interview some people our Hermanas had on date. We rushed back to the stake center and speedily—but spiritually—powered through the interviews because that night we had a movie night! All week, we'd been inviting everyone to this movie night our ward was hosting, and let's just say it was a hit! It got to the point where we didn’t have enough chairs for everyone. The place was filled with members, our recent converts, and even a lady we had just put on date! The movie we watched was Soul, and I'm not going to lie, it felt so nice to just sit down and chill for a second, even if it was all in Spanish. After the movie, we gave a short message about the Plan of Salvation because it related to the movie, and my Spanish was on fire! It was fun to talk to everyone there and relax for a moment.
Saturday
This morning was the actual day we had to help our ward mission leader, Yorkthan, move. It was just what you'd expect from moving, but the only annoying thing was that he lived on the very top floor! It wasn’t too bad, though, and after a couple of hours, we finished and celebrated with Pepsi and tamales. After that, it was a normal day, except we started our fast, which can sometimes make the day feel a little slower. We also got stopped by a lady who works at a store because she needed help moving a gigantic oven into her storage room and replacing it with a fridge. Man, it was heavy, but we managed to do it, and she rewarded us with free ice cream that we had to save for later.
TLDR: Interviews with President, lots of meetings, movie night, moving a lot of heavy things, and probably something spiritual if you look hard enough.
Quick spiritual thought: Mosiah 8:18 – Having faith in God can bring many mighty miracles in our lives, so strive to have faith in all that you do.
Thanks for tuning in! I love you all and hope you have a great week! Until next time.
