Get Up And Show Them Why You're Better!
Monday
Elder Wilkens and I were planning to go on a solo adventure to climb one of the dirt mountains around here. Well, Wilkens told the Hermanas what we were doing, and they invited themselves to come with us, which meant we had to grab the other Elders in our district too. Somehow, word got to the Zone Leaders, and they invited themselves as well. That’s where we drew the line, so we canceled the whole thing and went to a viewpoint in the Hermanas' area instead. I then got my first haircut in Peru, and now I actually look like a missionary, so that’s cool. We met back up with the district to grab lunch before heading back and spending the rest of the day calling family. I started getting a stomach ache right before P-day ended, and it only got worse and worse. We got off our weekly meeting, which we have every Monday, and I legit couldn’t move, it hurt so bad. I’m pretty sure I got a little food poisoning from lunch. Thankfully, for that last hour of proselyting, we didn’t have any solid lessons planned, so Elder Wilkens told me to rest. We were hoping it would get better by the morning.
Tuesday
The pain lingered for a while. I woke up at 4:00 and couldn’t go back to sleep, which made it a slow-moving day. We got through studies and lunch, but I still couldn’t eat anything. Thankfully, Elder Wilkens had a 3-hour Zoom call, which was honestly a blessing. Usually, I’d try to be productive during his meetings, but I really needed the rest, so I took a great nap, which made me feel much better. We got to work and met with Rocio, who’s on date, and we actually figured out that she’s our recent convert Pamela’s aunt! We invited her to church and then went to Pamela’s house, but when we asked if she’d take Rocio to church for us, she said no! So, we’re not sure what to do besides pray that Rocio will have the desire to come on her own.
Wednesday
Still not 100%, but I was feeling a lot better. We basically got ready and left because we had Gira Misional, which means a general authority came to talk to us. We made our way to the offices, said hi to our friends, took some pictures, and then sat down to listen to the talks. Not gonna lie, being trapped in one room for five hours and not being allowed to go to the bathroom after a night of being sick scared the heck out of me, but thankfully, my prayers were answered, and I sat through the whole thing. The speaker was Elder Pino, and even though it was easy to zone out because it was all in Spanish, I still got some cool insights, so it ended up being a good trip. When we got to work, it was a normal day. We spent the day in our hidden area and found a lot more people before getting Salchipapas and calling it a day.
Thursday
It was that time of the week for weekly planning, which means we were going to be in the house for a while. I get mad cabin fever sometimes, which can put me in a bad mood. Well, Elder Wilkens broke the dry-erase marker for our planning whiteboard, so we had to buy another one to finish. We got distracted and just bought Takis instead and never finished weekly planning. I wasn’t complaining. We then had a normal day of work, trying to get members to come out with us. We met with John, our most recent convert, because he got the Aaronic Priesthood! The only problem was that he didn’t know what that meant. We taught him about the Priesthood before, but I’m surprised the Bishop didn’t explain it well before giving it to him. Last Sunday, he came up to us and asked, “Who’s Aaron, and why do I have him?” So that’s what our whole lesson was about, and it went really well.
Friday
We had exchanges with the other Elders, and I got paired with Elder Robinson from Cedar City! He was coming to my area, so it was my first time kind of acting like the senior companion, and holy cow, I’m not prepared for that. Our day was kind of a mess in the first place, so it wasn’t smooth at all. It wasn’t bad though, we still had a few good lessons, and Elder Robinson is super fun to be around. We both have a shared love for junk food, so we were eating like kings all day.
Saturday
We spent a lot of the day in the top of our area just hitting contacts. A member referred us to an inactive member’s house, and they have two kids who aren’t baptized, so we introduced ourselves and hopefully will start having lessons with them. We also had a lesson with this family who had been dropped a while ago, but we’ve been finding them on the streets one-by-one, and today we had a lesson with all of them about the Restoration. It went really well. Then we found this other guy while looking for his brother. His name is Jefferson. His brother wasn’t home, but Jefferson was super nice and invited us in. He said he wanted to hear our message. He told us that he wants to change his life and break some bad habits, and he has Christian friends who’ve turned their lives around because of their religion. I’m super excited to keep meeting with him because it seems like our church is something he’d really want.
Sunday
Unfortunately, none of the people we’re teaching showed up to church again! We’ve been struggling with that lately, but some recent converts did show up, which was good. I was zoned out during church, as usual. Afterward, we went to grab lunch at our usual member’s house. They had soccer on their TV, so we were kind of watching that while waiting for them to make our food. After we left, we changed and immediately went back to the church for a meeting about something probably unimportant. I wouldn’t know because it didn’t end up happening. We then met with our ward mission leader and went to all of our recent converts’ houses to talk about a temple trip we’ll be having in a couple of weeks. We did that for a few hours before dropping him off and spending the rest of our day in our hidden area. While we were there, I had to pee really bad. We started hiking up a little dirt mountain so I could go, but then we got a little distracted and ended up going all the way to the top. It was actually super cool. We went back down and put this girl named Eva on date during our first contact with her! Usually, I’m iffy about setting dates that early, but already, my first impression of her makes me feel hopeful, so we’ll see how that goes.
Thanks for tuning in, and I hope the rest of you had the best weeks of your lives! Stay safe out there, and I love you all!
