Who Invited Lucifer To Sing At Our Devotional?
¡¿Qué Pasa?!
This week was pretty typical as far as weeks go in the MTC. Last Friday is when we started full immersion of Spanish in our classes so neither the teachers nor we can speak any English. I was terrified of that at first, but everyone, including me, was surprised at how much we can understand even if it's mostly just guessing. We also have really good teachers that make sure none of us get lost. It's honestly been really nice though because since the classes are so long, it just forces you to think in the language even if you can only think of a few phrases. Anyways, on to the week...
Friday 6/28
Friday was my b-day p-day, and all we really did was play spikeball and take a nap after going to the temple, and honestly, that's all I needed. But my comp also had to take care of visa stuff that interfered during our spikeball time, which normally I wouldn't argue too much about, but spikeball was literally the one thing I asked to do for my birthday. He ended up just running to the visa place without me, so I went to spikeball with another comp of elders because he was long gone. Unfortunately, I broke the net pretty soon after we started playing, so I wasn't allowed to play for the rest of the day, so we just threw a Frisbee instead. But during class, we celebrated more and had cookies and everything, so even though it was a kind of messy day, it was still a lot of fun. Also, thanks to everyone, especially my mom, for sharing your favorite memory. It was so sweet and was the highlight of my day.
Saturday
I can't think of anything that stood out on Saturday. We're supposed to do service once a week, and Saturday is our day for doing that. All we do is go over to one of the buildings to get assigned a cleaning job, but since so many people show up at the same time, they start giving you fake jobs to make you feel like you're doing something. So I spent an hour dusting imaginary dust off the paintings. Hopefully, I get blessed for my efforts still or something.
Sunday
Sundays are the only day me and my comp feel like Zone Leaders because organizing sacrament is all we do. It's kinda nice honestly that it's not as big of a deal in the MTC to be in a leadership position. We also had choir practice to sing Battle Hymn of the Republic, which was kind of hype because it was a sick song. Also, every Sunday, we have a devotional given by Brother and Sister Calderwood, who are in charge of the MTC, but today it said that we were staying in the gym longer because there was a special musical performance right after. During the break between the devotional and performance, Elder Holden said that the person holding the door open for everyone to go back into the hall looked super familiar. Then he realized that it was Lucifer from the temple endowment video that we had on Friday! He even went up to ask him, and he confirmed it was true. We then sat back down for the musical performance, and it turns out Lucifer was one of the people singing! It was so funny. Apparently, he and the other two singers were a famous LDS singing group, but I had no idea who they were. It was still good though.
Monday
Pretty normal day. The only thing that stood out is that me and my comp each had a one-on-one lesson with our Spanish teacher that we scheduled. It went pretty well. Also, I had to get my rabies shots, one in each arm. I was tough about it, though, and only cried a little bit.
Tuesday
Every Tuesday, we have a devotional with a general authority, and for that day, we had Gary B. Sabin from the 70. Also, our choir practice is always meant for the Tuesday devotional, and singing Battle Hymn of the Republic went so hard. The message was really good; he told a lot of doctrine within a couple of sentences, so it was hard to take notes. The main message was that we can do anything because of the Atonement of our Savior, so it was really good. Also, it was the last day of the MTC for our neighbors in our building. They're part of our zone and got here at the same time as us, so we got really close with the Elders, but since they're state-side, they were only there for two weeks. It was trippy that we arrived at the same time, and they're already gone. But that night, we were all just talking with each other, and it was really good.
Wednesday
The highlight of Wednesday (if you'd call it a highlight) was when drama ensued within the district, which made a lot of the sisters cry. I wasn't really part of it, but I heard every side of the story. People from both sides were just making a big deal out of nothing, which kind of created imaginary beef. We're all good now, but for a hot minute, everyone hated each other. After eating and resting for a little bit, everything went back to normal as it usually does. Also, even though we had one district leave, we had three others join, so our district grew quite a bit still. I've tried to get to know them but haven't really had a great opportunity yet. The elders I have met are pretty chill, though, which is good.
Thursday
Yesterday was a pretty normal day until it got to the evening. One of the hermanas got a care package filled with 4th of July-themed props for all of us, so we had American flags and glasses that we carried around all day. For the 4th of July, we celebrated by ending our evening class 30 minutes early so that we could watch the Joseph Smith movie. It wasn't a lot, but it was better than nothing. Then we went down to one of the fields where we had a somewhat good view of the fireworks at the BYU stadium, and they were serving BYU creamery ice cream. The elders had a pretty poopy attitude about everything for some reason, but I was glad that we still got a little celebration and fireworks. We even stayed up until 11 (way past our bedtime).
TLDR: Satan has a really good singing voice, a little bit of fire within the district, and a pretty good last 4th of July before I leave for Peru.
That's about it for the week. Spiritual thought is to read 3 Nephi 12. The more I read this book, the more it becomes my favorite within the Book of Mormon. I love how it's heavily focused directly on Jesus and his teachings.
Hope you guys have a good week, and I love you all! Peace out.
