Pilot Episode
This was my first official week of being a missionary and being completely honest, it doesn't feel like that at all. Home MTC was a pretty mind-numbing experience, not that I didn't get a lot out of it, but it was just hard to keep my mind sharp after sitting at a computer for 10 hours a day for an entire week. I won't go into a lot of detail about how my classes went because they were all pretty similar. A typical home MTC day consists of waking up for personal study, a Zoom meeting for comp study, a language class, a workshop class, a three-hour district class with one teacher, and then a last three-hour district class with the other. After each class, you get about a one-hour break depending on the class you just had. The best part of the whole day is getting to know my district during each opportunity we have to talk with each other. It's kind of interesting because my entire district is going to Spain besides me and my companion, and he's going to Guatemala, so no one in my district is headed to Peru with me. My comp's name is Elder Holden. He's a pretty cool guy, and we're both excited to see each other in person. He told me that he's 6'6" and also a pretty skinny guy, which I thought was hilarious because we're both the same build and are going to countries where the average national height is 5'2". He and I did a practice lesson with this lady on Saturday, and they don't tell us if she is an actor and works for the MTC or if she actually has questions about the church. As far as lessons go, I feel like there were a lot of things that we could've done better, but for our very first lesson, I feel like we did a pretty decent job. Obviously, the lesson was in English because the only Spanish I can do is say a prayer and bear my testimony off of memorized phrases, but after that lesson, it got me excited to imagine the point in the future where I can give a phenomenal lesson in Spanish. I know that will be a while though.
Last Friday was when I had my first P-Day, and that was so much fun. In the morning, Ethan, Owen, Luke, and I went to longboard down Provo Canyon, which is one of my favorite things to do, so I was happy that we all got to ride down it one last time. After, we just got lunch and went bowling, then just hung out for the rest of the day, so there are obvious benefits of home MTC even though sitting at the computer all day can be a grind. It's nice that I can still hang out with family a little longer before I really leave. Tomorrow at 2:00 is when I start the real MTC, and at this point, I'm so ready for it. It'll be tough giving the hard goodbyes, and I will miss everyone, but I'm kind of ready to start feeling like a missionary.
TLDR: Home MTC was fun for meeting my district, but I'm excited to get out for the real thing.
Also read 2nd Nephi 4:35. This is my plaque scripture, and I chose this one because it's Nephi bearing a powerful testimony on God. It's super cool!
I hope everyone has an amazing week and we'll see you in two! Love y'all!
